Just to Say...
Deep the sea
on her treasure chest,
The mermaid's hand
so softly rests.
For me no chest of oak or pine
But I walk hand in hand with mine.
When I was a child,
My heart would lift with a butterfly’s wings,
Every toadstool harboured a fairy princess
And the world was a magical place.
Now I watch its sweet enchantment
Rest upon my daughter’s eyes.
Her sleeping and her waking dreams
Walk hand in hand with miracles
And the world is still wondrous.
In depths serene I ply my art
Where sinews fierce and mighty heart
Might chance upon my humble bait
And join at once in battle great.
An arching rod and screaming reel -
That’s the rush I want to feel!
To step away from daily grind,
To clear my head and ease my mind
To share, perhaps, the hunter’s goal
While nature softly soothes the soul.
